College Dropout and Other Shocking Education Statistics

It’s amazing how much money changes hands with Education in the United States. What’s also amazing is how much of that money is wasted as students drop out of college at an alarming rate. Many are kicked out due to slipping grades, mainly because they’d rather get drunk or stoned instead of studying while their parents pay their way to party.

As tuition continues to increase many are turning to learning at their own pace. As illustrated below many students are now with the University of Phoenix and can learn and progress at their own pace instead of having to attend scheduled classes. I’m all in favor of this type of education, but would be even more in favor if it were something that was focused entirely on the course study instead of the ridiculous required courses by state institutions.

When I was taking an online program a few years ago I was required to do an online PE course. Seriously. What a waste of $215/credit hour. I was required to do some reading and then log how much physical activity I did that day out of a required amount. Of course I lied and said I ran like 3 miles every day when I didn’t do a damn thing!

This is why our education system is failing. We are paying for education we don’t need. Let’s cut to the chase and do what we need to and leave the other BS out!

Career Evolution: Britney Spears

Don’t know where this one came from but can tell you one thing: Britney Spears is still relevant after all the downfalls and self-depreciation that rivals that of Charlie Sheen. Wonder if she considers herself “winning”? Here’s a neat infographic about the peaks and valleys of one of America’s favorite celebrities.

RIP Napster

A company that changed the music industry forever over 10 years ago will breathe its last breaths today as it dies a humble and somewhat unnoticed death.

In a deal struck earlier Best Buy has chosen to sell Napster to Rhapsody for an undisclosed amount and a minority share in the streaming music service. Rhapsody will absorb Napster and use it for a boost in their customer base with Napster’s subscribers.

Napster was a necessary evil. Without it we may still be dealing with awkward CD’s and marketing surrounding them. It opened the industry to digital music, of which is now a focus amongst recording studios around the world. Napster’s beginnings found and exploited the buddy system of music and in turn improved how the industry would deal with lower profits from static media.

With the number of peer-to-peer networks slowly declining one has to wonder if we’ll ever see another Napster type application for sharing tunes like we did over 10 years ago. Only time will tell!

Meat Garden by Epic Meal Time

This week Epic Meal Time took us to a garden of meat to indulge in over 80,000 calories. A ground beef dirt bed, bacon tulips, and steak lettuce are some of the attractions here in an Epic outing for the clan.

Incredible Speed Boat Frisbee Catch

This is too awesome not to pass along. First of all I’m still trying to figure out how the throwing guy winged it that far off the bridge. Secondly I’m astonished that the driver of the speed boat caught up to the frisbee, and lastly that the guy who caught it did a full-out suicide dive off the boat to catch and came down with it. This is epic but at what cost? How long do you think they practiced that?

Spotting a Hidden Handgun

On the anniversary of the Brady Bill (requiring a five day waiting period for gun sales) we present you with an infographic on spotting a hidden handgun. With the conceal/carry laws now days this may just be a piece of information you don’t want to pass up. You’d be surprised how many people are packing heat now days and here’s a variety of ways to tell. Better yet, use these ways to NOT show off your piece and hide it elsewhere!

Leaf Blower Rocket Chair

You know, there are some really bored people out there. After the first time I watched this I thought “what a bunch of idiots”.

But then I watched it a few more times and realized this is a path to awesomeness. If I had a leaf blower I’d definitely give this a spin. Literally.

I wonder if the guy passed out at the end or just had enough. That’s a lot of spins in a short amount of time! Makes me dizzy just thinking about it…

Federal Land as a Percentage

I always find it interesting to see just how much land our Federal Government really owns. As for those who say our country is nearly completely settled, you are sadly mistaken. Look how much land is still untouched in the West. The shocker here is Nevada. I never realized just how much of the state is Government owned. Think of all the development opportunities one could have if the government decided to let go of some of the land in the west. Then again, I don’t know of many people who want to live in the desert! A lot of the land is also in the mountains. That might not be a bad place to be if you’re into the cold weather.

Plenty of country left to explore! I always wanted to just go out to some uncharted area and go hiking, with a guide of course. Totally be immersed in the wilderness for a while. Maybe Bear Grylls is up for the challenge…

Bill Gates on Facebook

While we are trying to increase of “Likes” on Facebook I ran across this hilarious shopped screen-cap of Bill Gates’ profile. I do have to confess, I use a Mac more than a Windows machine now days, but this is still funny. He’s right on with the Shuffle comment too…

The History of LOLcats

Nothing is better than wasting time checking out the latest LOLcat creation on various websites in the vast deep void known as the “Internet”.

Did you know there was actually a history of the LOLcats? Me neither, and after reading this I feel very well-informed about how it all got started.
